TeenCity offers a unique afterschool experience for teenagers. Given the current need for societal acceptance and around the clock access to various social media outlets, teenagers have developed greater interdependence leading to unanticipated lifestyle choices. The teenage years of students are important and should not be overlooked. Rather, these times should be spent networking, learning, and developing the social skills necessary to interact with the different personalities, cultures, and obstacles they are prone to face as they move into adulthood.
At TeenCity, parents will have the peace of mind knowing that their teenager is in a safe environment. Our venue is adult-monitored and staffed with licensed security officers. Student members have the options of engaging in kinesthetic activities, studying with peers, participating in gaming competitions, or simply lounging in the student zone. Whatever their choice, these moments of independence and social networking are priceless during their teenage years and critical as they prepare for their college and career explorations.
STATISTICS
TeenCity recognizes the lasting effects that after-school programs contribute towards the well-being, acceptance, and socioemotional status of teenagers. With this in mind, TeenCity seeks to offer an innovative and independent outside-of-school experience inclusive to a diverse group of teenaged members. While after-school programs have shown proven benefits, the demand for such programs is not being met. Research suggests that more than 4.6 million high school students not currently enrolled in an after-school program would participate if one were available. Moreover, after-school programs are vital for the full development of talent for all teens, but especially for those whose home schools may not provide the supportive peer environments they require. Because of this research, and the statistics presented above, TeenCity exists to serve as a safe and continual developmental pathway between school, after-school program, and home.
OUR FOUNDER
Dr. Chris Turner is a lifelong educator who believes that all students deserve equitable treatment and opportunities to achieve at their greatest potential. Through his school experiences as a classroom teacher, coach, and administrator, Chris has discovered that kids respond accordingly through proper discourse and genuine relational encounters. Chris continues to mentor and educate students in his role as a secondary school principal. He hopes that TeenCity will serve as a structural bridge for teenagers as they transition into adulthood.
